Reports suggest Samsung may split the lineup: the direct Fold 7 successor reportedly becomes the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, while a new wider variant takes the base Galaxy Z Fold 8 name. Multiple sources are corroborating the naming change, though nothing is confirmed until Samsung says so.
The wider variant. The new base "Fold 8" is expected to have a 7.6-inch inner display with a 4:3 ratio — wider and squarer, more compact-tablet feel when open. This appears to be Samsung's answer to the rumoured foldable iPhone.
Pricing holding steady. Despite component cost pressure, the entry tier is reportedly staying around the $1,999 USD mark — consistent with the Fold 7 launch price.

Worth upgrading from the Fold 7?
Probably not if you bought at launch last year. The Fold 7 was already a significant leap — thinner than the S25 Ultra when unfolded, a 200MP main camera, Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. The Fold 8 Ultra looks set to refine rather than reinvent.
For anyone still on a Fold 5 or earlier, this could be the generation that makes the jump genuinely worthwhile.
